AN MP has called for the Prime Minister to meet with a young climate activist.

Brighton Pavilion MP Caroline Lucas asked Theresa May if she would meet with Greta Thunberg, the 16-year-old who started the school climate strike movement.

During Prime Minister’s Questions earlier today (Wednesday) Mrs Lucas said: “This Friday young people across the UK will again be calling for more urgent action on the climate emergency.

“So far every party leader in this house except the prime minister has agreed to meet members of this extraordinary uprising.

“Following a speech at Davos, and a meeting with Pope Francis, Greta Thunberg, from Sweden, who sparked this global uprising, will visit parliament on April 23."

Mrs Lucas asked Mrs May to meet Greta and “hear directly from young people”.

Mrs May said: “I can assure the honourable lady that I hear young people often on the importance of climate change.

“This government has a fine record on climate change. One day the honourable lady will actually stand up in this house and welcome the efforts this government has made on climate change.”

Mrs Lucas could be seen shaking her head as Mrs May spoke.

After PMQs she posted the footage on Twitter saying that, it “seems the prime minister needs a bit more persuading”.

She asked people to retweet if they agreed. The tweet had received more than 1,600 retweets on Wednesday.
