AN ACTRESS has landed a major role in a new show about a dominatrix.

Former Brighton College pupil Gabrielle Ryan, who is from city, will star in the new Netflix show Bonding, a dark comedy series based on the colourful life of Rightor Doyle, who wrote it.

Gabrielle stars as the “posh” Portia in the show which centres around former best friends Pete, a recently-out gay man, and Tiff, a student who is secretly the top dominatrix in New York.

Gabrielle, 26, said: “I’m super excited to be attached to such a great show.

“I had an absolute blast working on Bonding.

“The creator Rightor Doyle is a genius, it’s hilarious.

Gabrielle developed her love for drama at Brighton College, where she won an academic scholarship.

During her time studying she took on three jobs and saved money to fund her own higher education.

She attended The Identity Drama School in London under the guidance of British agent Femi Oguns.

The school is considered one of the best in the city and its graduates include the likes of Star Wars actor John Boyega.

Gabrielle credits Oguns’ original belief in her for taking acting seriously as a career.

Following her time in the capital Gabrielle decided it was time to take her acting career to America.

She used her savings to train at New York’s Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute, where the likes of Scarlett Johansson, Angelina Jolie and Robert De Niro also studied.

Having travelled across the world for her career, Gabrielle says she loves her job, but does miss some certain home comforts.

She said: “You essentially have to be where the work is, which means moving between London, New York and LA.

“Filming in New York was something I’d always dreamed about, but I definitely miss the UK and being back in Sussex with my family.”

Bonding is produced by Anonymous Content, which has also had hit Netflix shows such as 13 Reasons Why.

The new show does not yet have an air date but is expected to be on Netflix in late winter or early spring.
