TWINS from Brighton are preparing to join a hit reality TV show tonight.
Dancers Danielle and Simone Collins, 24, will become the newest members of Channel 4’s Shipwrecked, which returned to screens earlier this week. All episodes were pre-recorded.
Speaking about the show, Dannielle said: “I was at home, and got the call. I found out before Sim so I had to keep quiet but I was buzzing.
“We had to ask our mum because we didn’t know what the show was.
“I hadn’t watched it before and didn’t know much about it, but it sounded really cool and very different so we wanted to give it a go.”
The show started in 1999 as a social experiment to see how people would survive on a remote island.
It last aired in 2009, but has been brought back this year with a new, competitive format.
It thrusts two “tribes” onto two of the Cook Islands and sees them compete against one another in a series of challenges.
Dannielle said: “ I was just so overwhelmed by how beautiful it was. It didn’t even look or feel real. I was speechless.
“I didn’t miss my phone. I didn’t think about it once. I didn’t think that a phone picture would do it justice, so I guess I took photos in my mind.”
The girls said they had some concerns about entering the show.
Simone said: “I was most nervous about if people were going to like my sister and I, as we did go on together and sometimes people can see that as a show of force, even though we are the complete opposite to that.”
Dannielle added: “I was really nervous about if there would be spiders or other creepy crawlies around but luckily there weren’t any.”
Before going on the show, the twins spent six months working in India and featured in a Bollywood music video called Bom Diggy Diggy which has been watched more than 360 million times on YouTube.
Dannielle said: “At the time we didn’t realise it was going to be such a big success, however it was a blockbuster in India.
“We were so lucky to be the featured girls in Bom Diggy Diggy. It’s fairly unusual to have white girls in a main part in a Bollywood video. They flew us to Dubai to do the live launch as well. It was so amazing.”
The girls gave viewers a sneak preview of what they will be getting up to tonight.
Dannielle said: “ We’re a bit extra, a bit loud and we’ve got a lot of energy.
“When we came onto the island we did a dance and got the boys dancing and shaking their hips, which was fun.”
Simone added: “I’m extremely hyper and have loads of energy. Especially with my sister. I think sometimes people can find that quite annoying.”
Simone had a partner going into the show, and Danielle was single.
But, they said they were not looking for love.
Dannielle said: “I didn’t go on to find romance, I wanted to make friends and survive on the island. It wasn’t in my mind.
“Sim and I said it would be girl power the whole way through.”
Viewers can see the pair enter the Shipwrecked islands tonight at 9pm on Channel 4.
