ABANDONED cars caused major tailbacks on the A259 between Saltdean and Newhaven this morning.
Motorists reported that traffic was at a standstill during rush hour.
About eight cars were abandoned on the roadside near Rottingdean.
The main problem was caused by a BMW that was "parked sideways" and left blocking the highway.
The vehicles have all now been collected and traffic is moving freely once more.
Sadly there is an abandoned car blocking the road at Rottingdean. This is causing severe congestion in the area. Sorry to keep for the delay. We'll get everyone where they need to be as soon as we can. ^LT

An accident at Rottingdean also contributed to the delays.
Some people were stuck for up to two hours, according to reports.
Rather than it taking 2 hours to move 1 mile due to abandoned cars on the A259 Saltdean / Rottingdean, wouldn’t a very simple option be to let westbound traffic use the bus lane so both lanes are then clear? 🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️ @esccroads @BBCSussex @sussex_police
