A "TANKED-UP" thug punched a woman in the face, knocking her teeth out and costing her thousands of pounds in dental bills.
Danny Warren was on his way to a birthday party, but “lost it” when he was insulted at Brighton railway station in July 2017.
CCTV footage showed the 38-year-old lashing out at Leesha Sheeran-Eldred, who had apparently made insulting comments and pushed him.
He tried to punch another person and missed, but the second punch landed, knocking out two of Ms Sheeran-Eldred’s teeth.
She needed £8,000 worth of dentist work.
Warren was found guilty of assault occasioning actual bodily harm by a jury at Hove Crown Court, and appeared for sentencing before Recorder Robert Gumpert QC.
He was ordered to pay a further £6,000 in compensation for the second round of the victim’s dental work, and was put under curfew for three months.
The judge said: “This was a violent scuffle, where one clearly saw Danny Warren throw a punch at a different person immediately before.
“Pretty much everybody involved was drunk. There were issues of disrespect involved and they started on the other side with derogatory comments. He reacted in a stupid and confrontational way and was not backing off because of his dignity."
Donald Rogers, prosecuting, said the first round of dental work worth £8,000 was completed for free by a dentist and an online Go Fund Me fundraising campaign.
Susan Meek, defending, said her client had written a letter to the judge to apologise for hitting a woman.
She said: “He apologised in the interview, and at Crown Court, he is not proud to have hit a woman. This is the first instance of violence. It was totally out of character.”
The judge took some issue with the Warren’s attitude, and said violence towards anyone in the circumstances was not justified.
He said: “She had pushed him. Her behaviour was not justified, his certainly was not. It was a disgusting and extremely harmful episode.”
He addressed Warren, of Bynes Road in South Croydon, and added: "This was a disgraceful incident that you were involved in.
"What is really grim here is that you were tanked up and full of joy on your way to a birthday party. There was a little bit of provocation at the railway station and you lost it. You weren’t the only person to do so.
You were the unlucky one whose violence caused a significant injury. But that is the way the cookie crumbles.
"It may be that stupid words were said, but you are a mature man. You have to learn to roll with it."
