Jamie Walker runs down the five Sussex based celebrities who are set for big things in 2019

Zoe Ball

Last year it was announced that Zoe Ball would make history, replacing Chris Evans as the host of the BBC Radio 2 breakfast

show.

In doing so, Zoe will become the first female host of the show.

She was also the first woman host of the BBC Radio 1 breakfast show.

The presenter, who lives in Ditchling, will be behind the BBC Radio 2 microphone for the first time in her new role on January 14.

It will certainly be worth tuning in to see how she gets on with this latest venture.

Romesh Ranganathan

With a new book out last year and more than a handful of television appearances, Romesh Ranganathan is quickly becoming one of the biggest names on the UK comedy scene.

The Crawley-born star will follow that up next year with more appearances on the small screen but is also going to embark on a mammoth UK tour in support of his new set.

With a special homecoming expected at Brighton Dome and a string of shows across the country, 2019 is likely to be the year Romesh Ranganathan cements himself as a major player on the British comedy circuit.

Blood Red Shoes

With a new album due out at the end of January, 2019 will start the way 2018 ended... with a lot of hard work.

The duo of Laura-Mary Carter and Steven Ansell have changed their sound and hope to make a big impact with their new record, Get Tragic.

With a lot more touring and some special in-store performances to kick off the year too, the Brighton band will definitely be making waves in 2019.

Peter James

There is an argument to be made that Peter James should have been on our “people who have had a great 2018” list.

Two books out, including one to add to his famed Roy Grace series, Peter has certainly been busy in the past 12 months.

This year is sure to be no different as the House On Cold Hill show, based on his 2015 novel, goes on tour.

While Peter may not be part of the show itself there is no doubt that the touring production will shine a further light on the book and the success or failure of the tour will affect himhugely.

That is why he makes this list.

Grace Carter

Grace Carter is one of the newest names to break out of the thriving music scene we have in Brighton.

Born in London but raised by the seaside, Grace has had a wonderful year, releasing two EPs.

It was topped off by making the BBC Sound of 2019 list of ten up and coming artists to watch.

Grace celebrated Christmas with a special homecoming show at The Haunt.

She is following that up this year with a headline show at Concorde 2, a true showing of how much her star has risen.

The sky is the limit for Grace.
