A woman biker was killed after colliding with a car on a 60mph stretch of a major road.
The motorcyclist, in her 30s, was believed to be heading to the Ace Cafe Reunion bikers' gathering in Brighton when the fatal accident happened.
Her motorbike collided with a Volkswagon Polo on the southbound carriageway of the A23 at Bolney, near Haywards Heath, at 12.15pm yesterday.
A spokeswoman for Ace Cafe said: "We've been told it was someone on their way down here. We're not sure at the moment who it was or where they were from but obviously it is a very great shame. It is terrible whenever anything like this happens."
South East Coast Ambulance Service said it had taken one person to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton. The emergency services helicopter was launched but was told it was not needed before it arrived at the scene.
The road was closed for almost four hours as emergency services worked to clear the debris from the accident. Diversion routes were heavily congested.
