STUNNED shoppers watched a dramatic police chase in the centre of Brighton today.
Witnesses reported seeing a man and a woman riding up St James’s Street on two mopeds.
They say the pair jumped off the vehicles and tried to run off after being approached by police.
A member of the public blocked their path, allowing the police to catch up.
The man screamed at the officers and there was a struggle as they put him in handcuffs and leg restraints.
He was then put in the back of a police van as passers-by filmed the drama on their mobile phones.
A Sussex Police spokesman said: “A man was arrested in St James's Street, Brighton, at 2.30pm on suspicion of assault on a police officer, who sustained a minor injury, and other offences.
“The 36-year-old local man is currently in custody for interview and further enquiries.”
