A DUSTBIN lorry burst into flames this morning.
The refuse collection vehicle was on Bear Road when the fire broke out.
Pictures show firefighters using foam to put out the blaze, which appears to have started behind the cab.
A fire brigade spokesman said: “At 10.39am today two fire engines from Brighton were called to a lorry fire at Bear Road, Brighton.
“The crews are using one hose reel and foam to put out the fire. The road is closed.”
A Brighton and Hove City Council spokesman said: “A fire started in the recycling compartment of one of our bin lorries as it travelled on Bear Road on Thursday morning. The fire service was called and the fire extinguished. At this point we’re investigating what happened, but we can rule out any mechanical fault.
“All the crew are safe and unharmed, but it may mean some delays to collections around the Woodingdean and Saltdean areas.”
