A film maker’s knee was fractured when he was hit by a delivery moped as he tried to cross the road.
Mark Bennett said he had just got off a bus in London Road, Brighton, and was about to cross the road as traffic was at a standstill.
But then he said he was hit by a moped with a Deliveroo box and learner plate which was weaving through the traffic.
He said he had checked the traffic in both directions and there was a red light at the nearby pedestrian crossing.
Mr Bennett, 52, from Hollingbury in Brighton, said: “I got off the bus and there was no traffic movement either side but I was hit by a Deliveroo moped.
“It was trying to squeeze through a gap that was no more than three feet wide, or one step.
“I don’t know why he tried to drive through the gap at speed. The scooter hit me and I held the windshield which dragged me into a sports car.
“I was barely able to stand up. I had a scan at hospital which showed I’ve fractured my knee. The pain became excruciating.”
Police were called to the incident, but it is understood that it is being dealt with via the scooter owner’s insurance company.
A company spokesman for Deliveroo said all riders must be insured in order to work for the company.
Riders go through an “onboarding” and training process in order to work for the company.
He said that the rider was not working for the company at the time of the accident on Thursday lunchtime last week.
The spokesman said: “We are very sorry to hear that Mr Bennett was involved in a collision with moped and wish him a speedy recovery.
“The rider was not riding with Deliveroo but we are in contact with all parties concerned to offer any assistance we can.”
Mr Bennett said he has not been able to complete work filming at the Spiegeltent in Steine Gardens and was in hospital over the bank holiday weekend.
He now faces several weeks of recovery before his leg is back to normal.
