DROP litter on the beach and you will be hunted down by the Seagull Police.
The bird, made from recycled rubbish, is on a mission to get people to be responsible for their own rubbish.
The gull and its creator and partner, Brighton University student Annie Lumby, are closely watching people and will not hesitate to name and shame those who toss litter.
The 20-year-old wears a T-shirt with the message “Pick up your rubbish. Don’t be tosser”.
She came up with the idea as part of a project for her second year 3D design and craft degree.
She said: “The seagull runs and squawks at people who litter, hopefully making them too embarrassed to litter again.
“I was inspired by the enormous amounts of plastic and waste in general left on Brighton beach.
“On the last bank holiday weekend alone, the beach was left under 45 tonnes of rubbish. Hopefully, the seagull will help get the message across.”
The bird took about three weeks to make.
The frame is made from spot-welded steel wire.
The feet and legs are made from moulded latex and the body is a layer of recycled milk bottles, heat gunned around the frame, and feathers made from heat-pressed plastic bags.
A Brighton University spokesman said: “Annie intends to continue with the same theme of beach littering and plastic pollution during her final year with us and this may lead to her developing some other characters.”
It comes after furious complaints about parks and beaches left overflowing with rubbish after the bank holiday when some 30,000 people enjoyed the beach.
Residents took photos of the mess, showing rubbish falling out of bins.
In Brighton’s Preston Park, plastic and other debris was scattered across the grass.
