JURGEN Locadia is an apt record signing for Brighton and Hove Albion.
The Dutch sharpshooter is determined to hit all the right notes for the Seagulls before moving into the music industry.
He has already released three singles and has a switch from the scoring charts to the music charts on his playlist when he eventually hangs up his boots.
Locadia, 24, makes his debut for Albion today in the fifth round of the FA Cup against underdogs Coventry City at the Amex.
He has been recovering from an injury sustained with former club PSV Eindhoven since joining the Seagulls last month for £14 million.
His music career took off with a friend while resting from an earlier injury at PSV.
Locadia said: “It happened three years ago. He was a producer also and we started hanging out. When I got injured at PSV it started being more serious, putting music out and producing more songs.
“I try to play the piano. I started lessons a year ago. It’s a step for after my soccer career.
“Everyone needs to do something and I’m not the type of guy who is going to be a trainer or manager.
“I enjoy making music and when I finish my career I will definitely go into music.”
Locadia has arrived on the south coast with a reputation for scoring goals.
He believes his love of music helps with his football.
“It relaxes your mind,” he said. “If you’ve had a bad training session or played a bad game, it takes your mind off it for a while, allows you to focus for the next day of training.”
Locadia surprised his team-mates with his lullaby choice of initiation song - a ritual for new signings at football clubs.
“It was a Dutch song, when you put your baby to sleep,” he said. Locadia lists Diplo and Major Lazer among his favourite artists. He has a kindred spirit in the dressing room. He said: “(Jose) Izquierdo is a DJ also. He likes to spin music at his home.”
Locadia is signed up to Powerhouse Music, a record label based in his home country. His single, Can’t Let Go, was released in August last year, and can be viewed online.
On the Powerhouse Music website, Locadia says: “Football will always come first.
“Music is my hobby and my passion when I’m not training or playing for the club I love. Music actually helps me with football.
“It gives me focus and it keeps away the distractions that come with the intense lifestyle of a football player.”
