A MAJOR county trunk road was closed for more than eight hours after several vehicles crashed on ice in the early hours of this morning.
Sussex Police were alerted to the incident on the A21 at Sedlescombe, near Battle, where a Warburtons bread lorry had overturned and shed its load shortly before 4am.
Several other vehicles also crashed at the same location.
A Sussex Police spokesman said the incident took place outside the Blackbrooks Garden Centre where it was reported sheet ice had formed.
The road was closed while recovery of the vehicles took place.
Among the motorists involved only minor injuries were reported.
Highways England maintains the road.
It was reopened at 12.30pm.
