ALBION star Shane Duffy picked up three unwanted points when he was convicted of speeding.

The Irish defender was also fined a total of £811 after admitting breaking a 30mph limit in his Mercedes.

Duffy, 25, was flashed by an A259 speed camera on April 12 this year as his team were involved in the tense end-of-season run-in before being promoted to the Premier League.

He was flashed as he travelled along Kingsway, Hove.

It was feared he faced a driving ban but the court had miscalculated the number of points on his licence and he now only has six points and not 12, the amount that would see him banned.

The Irishman, who previously played for Everton, registered his £50,000 black Mercedes GLE to an address in Liverpool.

Magistrates in Brighton called him back to court after he failed to appear.

His lawyer Sarah Read told magistrates in the city: “He became aware of the proceedings as a result of an article in the local newspaper.

“He moved to the area last year and he was not particularly on top of all the administration required when one moves house.”

Magistrate Harvey Nash gave the player seven days to pay his fine and three penalty points on his licence.

Born in Derry in Northern Ireland, Duffy played for Northern Ireland at youth international level before switching allegiance to the Republic of Ireland.

He made his debut for their senior team in 2014 and represented the country at UEFA Euro 2016.

Duffy made his Premier League debut at White Hart Lane on January 11, 2012, coming on as a substitute for the final 30 minutes in a 2–0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.

He made the first Premier League start of his career in a 1–1 draw with Aston Villa.

On August 26 last year, Duffy signed a four-year deal with the Albion for an undisclosed fee.

Duffy was called up for Euro 2016 but was an unused sub for the first two matches.
