PARENTS have slammed Youtube star Zoella for selling her advent calendar for a staggering £50.

The 27-year-old who lives in Brighton with fellow video blogger Alfie Deyes has millions of young fans around the country.

Her Youtube channel alone has more than 12 million subscribers.

But this week she has been on the end of fierce criticism from parents who are being asked by their children to shell out £50 on her advert calender.

What has incensed parents even more is that the calendar has only 12 doors.

Among the surprises behind the doors include a bauble, a small packet of confetti, a star-shaped cookie cutter, a packet of seven stickers, a small bag, a 130g “Festive Cookie” candle and a 30ml “Christmas Clementine” room spray.

Twitter user Harriet Wright wrote: “Zoella is a perfect example of people deliberately using their platforms for nothing other than to give themselves a bigger pay cheque every month. £50 for a poorly designed 12 day cheap advent calendar is an insult to anyone who has ever supported her.”

Another Sophie Thompson posted: “Some working class families are probably working hard right now trying to afford that £50 Zoella advent calendar and I don’t know how she can live with that knowing it’s worth about a fiver.”

Another said: “Should go out and do an 8 hour shift and then go buy her £50 12 day calender.. hopefully then realise how much of a money grabber she is.”

Given the extent of criticism the multimillionaire star decided to respond.

In a video blog she said: “Once that product is done and I’m happy with it the retailer can decide how much they sell for. That’s completely out of my decision making.

“It makes me so sad that it is a product that I loved and worked hard on and loads of you liked the product. I feel just as let down by this.”

Her fans then aimed their disgust at retailer Boots, forcing bosses of the high street chemist to cut the price to £25.

A spokeswoman said: “We are sorry to hear that the price of the Zoella 12 Days of Christmas Advent Calendar has disappointed a number of customers.

“We always listen to feedback. We will be offering the product at half price during our Christmas promotion, where the calendar will be on sale for £25 from Thursday November 16.”
