YOUNG players at a football club in Southwick will be sporting fresh new training kits this season after securing a sponsorship deal with Taylor Wimpey South Thames.

The housebuilder, which is currently building new homes at its nearby Shoreham Crescent development in Shoreham, donated £250 to be spent on training kits for Southwick FC’s U21 team.

Alan Petken, chairman of Southwick FC, said: “I’d like to say a huge thank you to Taylor Wimpey for sponsoring our club. We’re incredibly grateful for this contribution towards our U21 team’s training kit.

“Southwick FC is made up of volunteers who are passionate about sport and without donations like this it would be even more difficult for a grassroots football club like ours to run smoothly, so we really appreciate Taylor Wimpey’s support.”

Southwick FC was established in 1882 and has the prestigious honour of being among the founding members of the Sussex County Football League created in 1920 – which it has won six times.

The team trains every Monday and Wednesday at Southwick Sports and Social Club off Old Barn Road.

Mr Petken said: “As a former player and referee I want to give back all of the positivity I have received from this amazing sport.

“Football matches are a great way to get out into the community, and I’d like to encourage everyone in the area to come along to a game.”
