GHOULS, ghosts, monsters and zombies took to the beach at the weekend to collect litter.

More than 130 people took part in a silent disco litter pick in which 354kg of waste was collected from Brighton Beach.

The volunteers danced for three hours until sunset to classics like Monster Mash and Time Warp, while removing harmful litter from the beach.

The event was co-organised by local community group Pier 2 Pier Beach Clean, and Brighton and Hove City Clean as part of City Clean’s latest #StreetAhead campaign to tackle litter in the city.

The most common items found were plastic bottles, plastic straws, bottle lids, carrier bags, fishing gear and food packaging.

It was recently predicted that by 2050 there could be more plastic in our oceans than fish.
