A FORMER Sussex MP has renewed his call for an inquiry into the death of government chemical weapons expert Dr David Kelly after it was revealed his body had been exhumed.

Dr Kelly, 59, was found dead in woodland in 2003 shortly after being named as a source of a BBC report claiming that the government “sexed up” a crucial dossier about whether Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction.

The subsequent Hutton inquiry found he had killed himself, though there has been no inquest into his death.

Yesterday, The Sunday Times revealed his body had been exhumed from St Mary’s Church, Longworth, Oxfordshire, where he was buried.

A source close to his family said his wife was becoming increasingly upset with conspiracy theorists visiting the grave and leaving placards and notes.

Speaking over the weekend, former Home Office minister and Lewes MP, Norman Baker, once again called for a proper inquest into Dr Kelly’s death.

Mr Baker, who now works for Brighton’s Big Lemon Bus company, said: ‘This should not distract from the central issue which is that 14 years on there has been no proper inquest.”
