ELDERLY residents are being terrorised in their homes by antisocial behaviour and drugs.

People living in sheltered housing in Hangleton say they are plagued by a gang of youths riding motorbikes and taking drugs in the passageway next to their properties.

Gladys Baker, 91, said that after months of disturbances she is now too scared to sleep and worried about going out but terrified in her home.
She said: “I am scared. It is worrying for me living here.

“I don’t think I can take much more of it.

“They knock on my window.

“At quarter to three on Thursday morning they banged on my window waking me up.

“Then there was a knock on the door but I couldn’t see anyone through the spy hole.”

She said that sometimes, in the middle of the night, she can hear young men on skateboards racing up and down, shouting to each other.

Motorbikes have been heard right outside her window too.

She said: “We think they might be delivering drugs.

“I’m too nervous to go out.

“The police have been out a few times and the
council once or twice but nothing ever seems to get done.

“They are down there most nights by nine o’clock and it goes on all night.”

Ward councillor Dawn Barnett said: “These yobs are down the side of the building taking drugs.

“They’ve been doing it a while but this is the worst they have been.

“They were ringing on doorbells and keeping the residents up all night.

“Residents are being terrorised and tormented.

“Most nights there are between three and five of them and the ringleaders seem to be three teenage girls.”

A spokesman for Sussex Police said: “We are aware of one issue in the last week of antisocial behaviour reported at a sheltered home in Hangleton.

“We haven’t had any other calls to inform us of antisocial behaviour recently.

“We would anyone who is experiencing issues to get in touch.

“We always work closely with our partners at the council to resolve any issues and catch those people causing problems.”
