A 91-YEAR-OLD paedophile has been banished from his care home after being convicted of abusing an under-age girl in a Tesco car park.

Peter Cleaver has been told he cannot return to his care home in New Church Road, Hove, it emerged in court on Friday.

In July a jury found the pensioner to be responsible for an act of gross indecency and two indecent sexual assaults on a girl under the age of 14 in the Nineties.

A court hearing, imposing the terms of Cleaver’s supervision order, heard he was no longer welcome at the home.

Kevin Light, defending, told the Brighton court: “Cleaver is no longer at the care home, and is now at the Royal Sussex County Hospital for a medical issue.

“He cannot move back to the home. A meeting will take place to find somewhere for him.”

Judge William Featherby QC said: “He suffers from dementia and was produced in court but I am satisfied beyond recognising his name he understands little.

“At the time of the trial when he was residing in the care home, there were grumblings that the home found it difficult to cope with him. Since then he has been admitted to hospital and a multidisciplinary hearing meeting is to arrange a long-term placement.

“The supervising authority will be Brighton and Hove City Council social services.”

Although Cleaver was ruled unfit to plea, he was found to have sexually abused the girl, who was known to him, between 1992 and 1997, in a trial of facts in July.

One indecent assault of the girl took place in the car park of the Tesco in Boundary Road, Portslade.

He was also found to to have indecently assaulted the girl at an address in Hangleton and committed an act of gross indecency in Hove.
