HE already stands to make tens of millions of pounds if he can pull of the boxing shock of the century and become the first man to defeat Floyd Mayweather.
But now a Brighton-based company has given UFC champion Conor McGregor extra incentive for the much-anticipated bout later this month by offering him a stake in the firm.
Brighton-based men’s grooming brand Bullingberg has written to the ‘Notorious’ fighter with a hair-raising offer to give him a 2.5 per cent stake in the start-up firm if he can stop the five-division world champion within five rounds.
The company is backing the underdog to make history and jokes that, win or lose, McGregor’s iconic and fearsome Celtic beard is likely to take a real hammering during the fight in Las Vegas on Saturday, August 26.
It has also sent some products to the Dublin-born mixed martial artist.
Men’s personal care and grooming company Bullingberg formed in 2016 and offers a range of handcrafted products made from ethically-sourced ingredients including five different beard oils.
The much-anticipated fight will be screened on pay-per-view in the UK in the early hours of Sunday, August 27, and will set fight fans back £19.95.
Mayweather retired in 2015 with an unblemished 49-0 professional boxing record and is widely regarded as one of the best defensive fighters ever.
McGregor, 27, is the UFC’s reigning lightweight champion and former featherweight champion.
In the letter sent off this week, managing director Yousaf Sekander told the UFC fighter, who had a 21-3 record before moving into boxing for his bout with Mayweather, that the company staff were among his biggest fans and were truly inspired by everything he had achieved in his remarkable career.
The letter also describes his beard as “a thing of beauty”.
Mr Sekander said: “Since launching, we have developed a reputation for creating remarkably luxurious beard oils for the impeccably stylish gentleman – gentlemen like Conor McGregor.
“Just four years ago Mystic Mac was picking up a dole cheque and now he is one of the most recognisable sports men around.
“His transformation into a global icon is an inspiration to us all, which is why we’ve put together this offer.
“We know the odds are stacked against him.
“But, as he possesses one of the finest beards around, it only makes sense that when it comes to one of the biggest bouts the world has ever seen we stand firmly in Conor’s corner.”
