A HOUSEBUILDER is running an education programme with local schools.
The Year 6 class from Palatine Primary School in Worthing got their hands dirty as they visited Barratt Homes’ Cissbury Chase development to learn about site safety.
The visit saw the children building a wall with the builders, learning about building materials and meeting Barry Barratt the mascot, all to learn about the importance of staying safe on and around building sites, and to provide a fun element to a serious message.
The children ended their visit and took a lasting reminder of the lessons home in the form of a goodie bag provided by Barratt Homes.
The project ensures that the children are educated on the dangers that a building site holds. In learning about the dangers, the children were also taught about the materials and work that goes into a building site and the opportunities available in the construction industry.
Lynnette St Quintin, director of sales and marketing for Barratt Southern Counties, said: “As a housebuilder we are dedicated to ensuring that the next generation are educated on the risks of being on or around a development.
“So, when building in an area we are keen to work with the community to ensure that children, who might see a site as more of a big playground at first, are safe.
“We thought this project with schools was a fun and engaging way for children to understand how to stay safe on site.”
