THE success of more than seventy Chichester College graduates was celebrated at Chichester Cathedral.

The ceremony recognised the hard work and achievements of students who have completed higher national certificates, higher national diplomas or foundation degrees in subjects ranging from animal management to performing arts.

The cathedral was packed with family members, college staff and governors, as well as local dignitaries including the Mayor of Chichester Peter Evans.

And for the graduating class of 2017, it was an emotional occasion.

Ashlea Piper, graduating with a HNC in Performing Arts (Musical Theatre), said: “It’s exciting to graduate and it has been quite emotional.

“It’s the end of the road for us here and it’s come around so quickly!”

Emily Johnson, who was awarded with her HND in Music Performance (Jazz) and also received the award for Music Performance (Jazz) student of the year, added: “I’m very happy and overwhelmed! I wasn’t expecting it to be such a big event.

“I feel very happy and very privileged to have studied here.”

Friends Abigail Clue and Kayle Fairman were among the graduates paying tribute to their lecturers after collecting their HNDs in Equine Management which they studied at the college’s Brinsbury campus.

Abigail said: “The support from everyone has been amazing over the past two years.”

Kayle added: “The lecturers were really, really helpful. They helped me every step of the way.”

This was also reflected across other areas of the college with Lydia Mark – graduating with a foundation degree in Events & Hospitality Management - echoing their comment: “Lianne Grogan and Andy Ward were brilliant.

“If you had a really bad week, you’d come in to college and they’d just brighten up your day.

“They encouraged us and pushed us forward.”

Classmate Sarah Waddington-Azambuja agreed: “I would not have graduated without them. I think we all think that they are just the best people.”

Principal Shelagh Legrave OBE led the ceremony which started with a procession of college staff and dignitaries.
