YOUNG athletes are celebrating after taking home a grand haul of medals from a national competition.
The students from Lewes Old Grammar School’s Years 7 to 10 bagged 11 eleven medals from the Independent Schools Athletics (ISA) finals last week as they represented the London South County in the national event.
Battling record-breaking heat and humidity at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham, the pupils came second in the competition as they won four gold, eight silver and two bronze medals in a variety of events.
The competition is organised annually for ISA’s 431 member schools. Leading Logs’s victories were Hector Summers and Anouska Fairhurst, who won gold in javelin, while Maia Hardman came first in the 800m. Year 10 student Hannah Williams won silver in the 100m race and javelin.
Students from Logs junior school, Morley House, also won a silver and a bronze medal.
Javed Alikhan, PE teacher at Logs, said: “The students did an absolutely amazing job representing the school and county. It was great to see students from across the country come together in the hot weather to celebrate their love of athletics. We’re so proud of them.”
