A MAN with terminal cancer says cannabis oil has prolonged his life and allowed him to spend time with his baby daughter.
Marcus Gray, of Loose Lane, Worthing, was diagnosed with stage four colorectal cancer in February 2016 and doctors told him he would not live to see his wife give birth to their daughter.
But Darcy was born in May last year and Marcus is very much still here.
He said: “There is no doubt in my mind that the cannabis oil has had something to do with me living much longer than expected.
“The cancer has significantly reduced and there are only two cells left on my lungs.”
Marcus, 43, was receiving chemotherapy treatment and said the oil had made it much more bearable.
At the start he would take a gram a day but now he only takes it periodically.
Marcus found out cannabis oil could be used for medicinal purposes through friends and last year he appeared on BBC Newsnight to explain how the oil helps him.
He said: “It has definitely reduced the pain. Chemo made me lose my appetite and disturbed other parts of my life but the oil makes up for what the chemo takes away.”
Speaking of having terminal cancer, Marcus said: “It gives me all sorts of feelings. Initially it was scary. I was going to bed at night with the thought that I might not wake up tomorrow.”
Cannabis oil has been known to help other conditions such as Parkinson’s and epilepsy.
It is illegal but many have backed it as a medicinal treatment, including 58 per cent of MPs in a poll carried out by the Daily Telegraph last year.
Marcus said: “If my condition improves, I plan to educate people on the positive effects of using cannabis oil medicinally. It can definitely help and I want to try to help the process of getting it legalised.”
Marcus’s wife Catherine thinks the oil has definitely been beneficial.
She said: “It has been amazing to have Marcus around with Darcy. Obviously it has been a very stressful time but the oil has really helped Marcus’s mindset against the cancer. One of the main effects of chemo is weight loss, but the oil has completely changed that. He has a good appetite, which has definitely helped his health.”
Catherine also supports the use of cannabis oil for illnesses. She said: “I will definitely support any attempt to help legalise the use of cannabis oil for health problems.”
