CHILDREN, parents and staff were barricaded inside two primary schools after reports of a man with a gun nearby.
He reportedly showed the weapon to a member of the public at about 2.15pm who called the police.
Officers arrived at the scene near Victoria Park and Norfolk Street, Worthing, and decided to keep everyone inside Heene Primary School and St Mary's Catholic Primary School while they searched the area.
A police spokesman said: "Once satisfied that the area was safe the schools allowed children to be collected as normal.
"No suspect has been identified in relation to the report and officers remain in the area."
