A MAN was assaulted on a street corner after coming under a tirade of racial abuse from his attackers.

The incident took place on the corner of East Street and South Street in Chichester at around 12.50am last Saturday.

Police were alerted to the assault during which a 56-year-old Bangladeshi man from Romford in Essex was verbally abused and assaulted by two men.

During the attack the victim sustained bruising to his torso and was hit on his head.

The two attackers, aged 57 and 41, have been arrested on suspicion of racially aggravated assault and have been released under investigation.
