- Sussex Police said a Vauxhall Astra failed to stop in the Bear Road area of Brighton at around 10pm
- Minutes later a pedestrian was killed in the St James's Street area after being hit by the Vauxhall
- The vehicle was later found abandoned on Madeira Drive near Concorde 2
- The driver was arrested after handing himself in to a police station on Wednesday morning
- The 78-year-old victim is yet to be formally identified
- However it is believed he is a well-known member of the St James's Street community known as 'Hungarian John'
- A second Brighton man, 35, was arrested after he handed himself in at a police station
