A DISCO dancing headteacher has attracted 8,800 views on YouTube after busting some impressive moves in a school promotional video.

Mark Anstiss’s dad dancing got Felpham Community College pupils and staff moving and grooving to Earth, Wind and Fire’s hit September.

In the 90-second video, Mr Anstiss can be seen strutting through the Bognor school in footage interspersed with dancing staff and pupils in scenes of school life.

Mr Anstiss said: “We are often asked, ‘What is the essence of FCC?’While we are delighted that this was reflected in our good Ofsted report this year, not everyone wants to read these.

“So we decided to make a little video and see if we could capture FCC in 90 seconds. It was great for the whole school community to get involved and the children at the school have appreciated it.

“They feel quite proud we’ve done something a bit different so they have shared it as well.”

The video has proved a hit on open days and the school hopes it will attract more 10 and 11-year-olds to consider Felpham Community College for secondary school.

Mr Anstiss said: “We wanted to do something a little bit different to interest Year 6 students.

“When we showed it at the open evening they thought it was nice the headteacher was prepared to stick his neck out a bit and do something unusual.”

The video has also won praise from students.

A-level media student Jessie Moon, 18, said: “It showed the fun and lighthearted element of the school and showed we’re not too serious and can see the fun side of learning. It was a great representation.”

A-level media students assisted the HERO production crew during filming of the video.

They are now working on a promotional video of their own to attract prospective sixth formers to the school.

Calum Rafferty, 17, said: “It was a great experience to see the team shooting first hand and to see how the shots were done and planned out.

“It’s something I want to get into so it was a great opportunity for myself.”

The video follows Ofsted isnpectors rating the mixed comprehensive school “good”.

Mr Anstiss said: “We’ve had some great results for the last couple of years.

“We are in the top 30 per cent of schools nationally for progress and we had a great Ofsted in January, which recognised the school as being a nice friendly, happy place.”
