OSCAR the English Springer Spaniel was a star in his first year at a dog show.

Oscar and his owner Jenni York won the Starters Cup semi-final for large dogs at the Kennel Club International Agility Festival and will now compete at Eukanuba Discover Dogs at ExCeL London in the final this October.

Proud owner, Jenni, from Crawley, said: "I was surprised and delighted to win the Starters Cup as this was our first trip to the festival. This is Oscar’s first full season and he has exceeded all my expectations.

"I felt a lot of pressure running last but he took it all in his stride and didn't put a foot wrong.  I couldn't be happier with him and massively looking forward to running him at Discover Dogs.”

"I would not be here without the help and support of Bridge House agility as well as my family and friends. But a massive thank you to Sian Illingworth who has helped me train Oscar from day one, without her we would not be where we are today."

Jenni and her three-year-old English Springer Spaniel Oscar won in the large category after succeeding in a jumping round and an agility round, from which the top placed dogs then took part in the semi-final.

The Starters Cup, the Kennel Club’s premier agility competition for dogs new to agility, was created for dogs in Grades 1 and 2 of the sport.

The top 12 large dogs from the semi-final, together with the top six medium and six small dogs are now invited to compete for the Starters Cup title in the finals at the prestigious Eukanuba Discover Dogs event at ExCeL London on 22-23 October.
