A BURST water main has left hundreds of homes without water or with low water pressure.

South East Water reported a booster in the South Chailey area had failed yesterday morning due to an electrical supply fault.

Technicians were sent to the site to began making repairs. However once there they discovered the booster failure had led to a water main to burst.

Some customers have been without water for 24 hours.

The pipe has been repaired and the company says many customers should see their water supply return to normal.

A statement on the company's website states: "We currently have a burst water main which may be affecting some customers in and around these areas.

"Customers in the following post code areas may also be affected - BN6, BN7, BN8, RH16, and RH17.

"Customers may be experiencing no water or low water pressure.

"We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused and reassure customers that we are working hard to fix the main as quickly as possible.

"Bottled water is now available on site at West Street, Ditchling, East Sussex, BN6 8TS, 250 metres towards Hassocks on the right hand side.

"Also bottled water is available at the Post Office in Station Road, Plumpton Green BN7 3BS."
