A GROUP demanded money from a vulnerable man before attacking him.

The 39-year-old victim was walking home when he was approached by a group of four men.

One of them demanded money and when the victim explained he didn’t have any and tried to walk on, he was hit on his back causing him to fall to the ground

The men then ran off.

The attack took place on Tuesday, August 2, at around 11.40pm.

Detective Constable Aaron Halsey of Sussex Police said: "Thankfully two people came to his aid and police and ambulance were called.

"The victim, who has brain damage, was taken to hospital and was found to have broken his hip.

"He remains in hospital and will need to have surgery on his leg.

"He is extremely vulnerable because of his brain injury and then men may have targeted him because of this.

"We are appealing to anyone with information about the attack to come forward."
