A WOMAN killed when a generator fell off the back of a flatbed lorry has been named.
Emma Beeney, 40, of Willow Close, Etchingham, was walking with her 44-year-old husband and their dog when they were struck by a portable generator falling off a Ford transit flatbed lorry.
Mrs Beeney, an Army warrant officer who was based in Andover, Hampshire and was reportedly on leave, died at the scene.
Emergency services were called Etchingham High Street, near the railway station level crossing, just before 6.55am on Monday (August 8).
Her husband Rob was flown to the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton. He is in a stable condition.
Floral tributes to Emma have been left at the scene.
A 42-year-old man from Ashford Kent, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and has been questioned and released on bail until October.
Chief Inspector Rosie Ross said: "This was a tragic incident and we are investigating the circumstances. We would like to hear from anyone who saw the lorry before the incident or what actually happened."
An Army spokesman said: “We can confirm that a serving soldier has died following an accident while off-duty.”
