PARTS of a main road was cordoned off after a stabbing in which a teenager is understood to have been injured.

One nearby worker described hearing a woman scream before seeing a young man driven away in the back of an ambulance.

A spokesman for Sussex Police confirmed officers were called to Boundary Road, Portslade, at 5.50pm, and were investigating an assault on a man involving a "laceration to a finger caused by a knife".

No arrests had been made as The Argus went to press last night and witnesses said the cordon close to Cherry's News in the road, next to where the incident is believed to have happened, was lifted shortly after 8.30pm.

One nearby resident said the victim had run into the shop for help.

Another local worker added: "I just heard a lady screaming and then there were lots of police cars.

"The police had cordoned it all off but there was a trail of blood.

"Then the paramedics took a young lad off in the back of their car.

"Police were asking businesses if they had any CCTV. "

It comes after a 17-year-old boy was victim of an attempted knifepoint robbery in nearby Trafalgar Road at about twelve minutes after midnight on Saturday.

Police said a man ran towards him then held a knife to his chest and demanded cash.

But when the victim showed the robber an empty wallet he ran off, telling him: "Don't call the police".
