Activists for the Justice for Omar Deghayes campaign leafleting outside Brighton Town Hall before and after performances of New World Order have found themselves part of the action.
In an unscripted scene, an actor playing the minister of justice walked out of the town hall mid-performance and confronted campaigner Jackie Chase on the street.
She said: "He comes storming out and says, What are you doing here?' and "Why don't you get a proper job?'"
Although she was initially taken aback to be included in the play, after the second night she started acting back.
She said: "I tell him what I'm campaigning for, and he gets really angry and throws my leaflets on the floor. We really go for it."
She said she was delighted with the cast's support, and said the ad-libbed scene highlighted parallels between the play's subject matter and the situation of Omar, who has been held without trial in Guantanomo Bay for the past four years.
