A burning car with a horsebox attached caused major delays to rush hour traffic.
The vehicle caught light in the outside northbound lane of the A23 near Pyecombe at 7.25am this morning.
The blaze was quickly extinguished and neither the driver nor the horses in the box were hurt but it took an hour before the vehicle could be moved.
Commuters on the road were forced to wait in long tailbacks.
