A theatre group reviving and revelling in vice and sin? Surely not.
But when Hello Id undertook Shakespeare's Measure For Measure, they decided what was required was a celebration of the bawdy, riotous comedy which so offended the puritanical Victorians, it was often omitted altogether.
Commendable, indeed, and the wonderfully-costumed undesirables certainly got some laughs, particularly the charismatic Chris Jones as a drunken dandy of a Pompey.
Sadly, the play as a whole was largely unengaging and unconvincing, a lack of clear annunciation and comic timing meaning the more subtle and brilliant comedy went unnoticed.
A good attempt to emphasise the colourful humour in Shakespeare but one which ultimately left the majority of the play rather dry and dull.
