So the Tories, along with their right-wing allies the Green Party, now run Brighton and Hove City Council. Back to the days of misery then.

However, this will not change the life of people of Moulsecoomb one iota. For years, council officials in the housing department have run this estate in a way that would make Rachman and Hoogstraten proud - "all pay and very little repair work".

Let me warn the new councillors: You have less than three years to bring this estate up to modern standards. Not the tinkering that you so love, we want a proper job done to decent standards.

We no longer find it acceptable to have jobs done (those few who are lucky enough to get them done), only to see the contractor return a few days later to put the job right.

We will also expect to see our elected councillors demand that the officials carry out the wishes of the people.
