I have never really been interested in politics. I hate to say it but I only use my vote at general elections.
I decided to vote at the local ones this time, mainly because I was fed up seeing our city gradually deteriorating under a Labour council.
We live in a new complex near Hove Park. There have been several problems, not only with parking but with new offices built and occupied by Legal and General - who I must say are extremely community conscious.
Our Independent councillor, Jayne Bennett did a wonderful job sorting everything out for the community, but because of the elections I thought I would listen to all candidates' views before making up my mind.
Armed with my questions I waited for the doorbell to ring. The first person to call was Jayne Bennett.
She gave excellent answers and was very concerned about the community of Stanford ward. She certainly would get one of my votes.
I waited for the next caller, to no avail. No one bothered to call, just put their literature through the letterbox. If they couldn't be bothered to call, they were not going to get my vote. Perhaps now we have a new council, we will get something done about the state of our city.
