Linda Watson is correct when she says fly-tipping is dangerous, potentially harmful to residents, spoils our environment and is costly to remove (Letters, May 8).
All residents can help tackle the illegal dumping of waste by making sure their rubbish is disposed of properly. Indeed, they must ensure any firm or individual contracted to dispose of rubbish of any description on their behalf is licensed and does so in a legal and safe way.
If their waste is taken away and then fly-tipped it could leave them liable for prosecution and being fined up to £5,000.
I also urge anyone witnessing fly-tipping to report it to their district or borough council.
