Wildlife rescuers saved a pregnant deer after the creature got caught in barbed wire.
The wild animal was found with its hoof twisted in the top of the fence at Burwash Weald, near Heathfield, yesterday.
It is thought she had been caught for more than five hours.
Volunteers from Wildlife Rescue Ambulance Service were called to cut the suffering creature free and take her to get medical help.
Rescue co-ordinator Trevor Weeks said: "I hate these types of incidents as you have to try and balance the welfare of not just the adult deer but the welfare of the baby too.
"I wish there was an alternative to stock and wire fencing."
