Police have identified the fifth Brighton man who died in a horrific motorway crash on bank holiday Monday.

Singer and songwriter Rohan Chadwick, 27, died alongside his friends Jon Chandler, 26, Matthew O'Donnell, 30, Andrew Graney, 29, and Christopher Janaway, 28, as they drove back to Brighton after spending the weekend in Leicestershire.

Their untimely deaths shocked people across the country and tributes continued to pour in yesterday.

The friends had spent the weekend celebrating the impending marriage of James Forrer, 27, to bride-to-be Charlotte Fisher, 27.

The couple, who live in Hendon Street, Brighton, were due to marry on May 20 but are yet to decide whether the wedding will go ahead. Mr Chandler, a care assistant who lived with his family in The Drove, Brighton, was a vocalist and guitarist with Brighton band the Mojo Fins and was to be best man at Mr Forrer's wedding.

The sole survivor of the crash, Ben Pert, 30, is still at the Queen Victoria Hospital in East Grinstead. He was transferred there from East Surrey Hospital in Redhill after being admitted with serious injuries including a broken leg. He has undergone surgery for facial injuries and is in a stable condition.

The three men were all qualified doctors who worked at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton. They all studied together at St George's University in London, with Mr Forrer, and shared a flat close to the hospital and to Mr Forrer and his fiancee.

Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust chief executive Peter Coles paid tribute to the junior doctors.

Dr O'Donnell joined the trust in August last year and worked in cardiology and accident and emergency.

Dr Janaway joined at the same time and worked in anaesthetics for six months before moving to the Royal Sussex department.

Mr Coles said: "Both Chris and Matt were popular and highly respected. They will be sadly missed by those who worked with and alongside them.

"We are all deeply shocked and saddened by this tragedy and our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with Chris and Matt's families and friends."

At St George's, Dr O'Donnell had worked extensively with the Fair Access team on attracting young people from disadvantaged background into healthcare careers as a mentor on their Widening Participation programme.

Dr Pert, the son of Leicester Crown Court judge Michael Pert, has managed to say a few words to the police about the crash but they are yet to interview him.

Mr Graney, was a guitarist with Brighton band Wonky Beak. James Micklewright, from Henley-on-Thames, said Mr Graney was a gregarious person who was always great fun to be around.

His children, Helen, Rosie and Alecka attended the same school as Mr Graney in Madrid in the Nineties.

Mr Micklewright said: "Andrew lived in Spain when he was younger and he used to be over at our house all the time.

"He was great fun and very different. He was an individual and always very entertaining.

"My children had kept in touch with him and had been to see him in Brighton. They were good friends and his death has been a bit of a shock."

A total of 13 men had spent the weekend at Judge Pert's house in Ratcliffe-on-the-Wreake, Leicester, when their minibus broke down on junction 18 of the M1 as they travelled home.

They called the AA who sent two recovery vehicles. Seven men, including Mr Forrer, returned to Brighton safely in one vehicle. The other six men got into the vehicle towing the minibus.

It crashed into the back of a lorry between junctions 9 and 8, Reigate and Leatherhead, at 2.13am on Monday killing the five men and the 46-year-old driver from Rugby, and injuring Dr Pert.

On Tuesday, Mr Forrer said the accident had ended the lives of 'five beautiful friends' and that everyone who knew them had been inconsolable.

The investigation into the crash is still on going and the lorry driver, who was uninjured, is helping police with their inquiries.

Any witnesses are asked to contact Surrey Police on 0845 1252222.
