I find it remarkable that Brighton and Hove City Council can do so much good work on improving our city but when it comes to the basics fail miserably.
The block paving installed in New Road in front of the Theatre Royal and magnificent Unitarian Church in the centre of town is, or was, going to look beautiful. What a shame then that it is already looking dirty - covered in beer stains from the two public houses that have seating on it, and chewing gum. If this were any European city the streets would be cleaned on a daily basis, but not in this town.
