Poor old Lewes District Council chairwoman Marina Pepper claims she didn't try to abuse her position for political gain when making her ill-timed comments at the Royal Sussex Regiment re-union (The Argus, May 1).
To anybody who understands the role of council chair, the magnitude of her error is obvious.
The validity or otherwise of her sentiments are not the issue here.
It is bad enough to make such a political comment during an election period but it is significantly worse as she was invited in her official capacity.
She has been accused in the past of heckling Liberal Democrats from Brighton and Hove who support a community stadium at Falmer. She denied this too.
I bet she will also deny some of the derogatory comments she has made to myself and other members of the public when we question her ill-thought-out opposition to the stadium as well as the methods the Lib Dems employ to continue their misguided misuse of Lewes district residents' funds.
She is clearly unfit to carry out such a responsible role.
