Last week we read of yet another two unnecessary deaths due to road accidents on the A27 near Selmeston.
How many more lives does this road have to claim before the Government will do something about it?
When I first started driving 32 years ago, there was talk and a promise of an A27 trunk road from Dover to Honiton. This road would be the South Coast motorway, the answer to the future, cutting congestion and bypassing the seaside towns.
Why then 32 years later are we still talking about it? When the present government came to power the road was due to be upgraded, but that was cancelled.
It is a disgrace that successive governments have allowed the carnage and deaths to continue on this road. I would urge all readers and road users to sign the e-petition at http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/A27extention and to write to their MPs, who were voted into Parliament to represent our views. Readers and road users must demand this road is upgraded and lives saved.
