Conservatives have made their first gain in the tightly fought contest for Mid Sussex District Council.
The Tories had to wait until 3pm to break the deadlock of seats held between themselves and the Liberal Democrats.
Liz Bennett and Peter Reed both managed to wrestle seats from long-serving Lib Dem councillors Paul Johnson and Alan Lord.
Mother of two Councillor Bennett said: "I think this election shows that the Conservatives are becoming more confident and I'm really looking forward to making a difference in my ward."
