Precious books stolen from an art student have been returned thanks to The Argus.
Helen Hipperson, 24, made a desperate appeal in this newspaper yesterday after a box of her degree work was taken from outside her home.
Her parents had been helping her to unpack at her home in Hillside, Newhaven, when a passing woman asked Helen's father John if she could take the box of specialist art and architecture books.
He said no and the woman got into her car and drove off. He went inside but when he came back the box had gone.
Helen, who is studying for a degree in theatre and visual arts at the University of Brighton, is preparing to hand in her final pieces of coursework on May 15 and was afraid she would not be able to complete them.
Her mother Jeannette told The Argus her daughter was ecstatic to get the books back.
She said: "She's just elated.
She's gone in to university to pay for tickets for her graduation."
The books were returned by a woman from Lancing, who said she was hard of hearing so she had not understood when Mr Hipperson told her she could not take the books.
