In answer to Wendy Taylor (Letters, April 30), I have worked at a Tesco Express for more than seven years and we have always had to separate plastic and cardboard waste for recycling.
Tesco carrier bags are 100 per cent biodegradable, as anyone who has used the bags for storage will confirm (they turn into an ash-like substance which disintegrates when touched).
Tesco is currently trying to encourage people to re-use carrier bags by offering them added bonus Clubcard points for every carrier bag they re-use.
I don't know what other retailers' policies are on recycling their waste, but I hope that if they don't recycle at the moment they will soon follow Tesco's lead both in recycling and encouraging their customers to do the same by re-using carrier bags.
