Playing some of the most energetic classical Eastern European music ever composed, the Czech National Symphony Orchestra makes a welcome return, led by internationally-acclaimed conductor Libor Pesek.
The 80-strong orchestra sets the tone with a bravura performance of Dvorak's Carnival Overture.
With its energetic rhythms and bright, brilliant orchestration, the music captures all the bustle and boisterous fun of carnival proceedings and is a wonderful showpiece which captures the Slavic spirit to perfection.
Gill says: "There is something special about an orchestra playing music from its own country.
"I think other orchestras can recreate it technically but an orchestra playing music from its own country has a certain quality of magic."
Bruch's rarely heard Scottish Symphony provides the perfect platform for young British violinist Chloe Hanslip and Janacek's Taras Bulba, based on Gogol's turblulent tale of a 16th-century Ukranian Cossak who fought against Polish tyranny, follows.
The concert reaches a crescendo with Dvorak's resplendent hymn of praise, Te Deum.
