Charivari Agreable brings a rich repertoire of early music to the festival. Making a welcome return for the world premiere performance of its universally acclaimed CD of Songs and Dances from the Hispanic Baroque.
Gill says: "Charivari specialises in finding music that has been buried for hundreds of years but this is the first time they have given a live performance of this particular music.
"This concert covers Spanish music, some of which sounds like very early flamenco. You can see how that tradition grew out of it."
Performed in a beautiful and gentle Baroque style using an ensemble of viols, lute, harp, theorbo, baroque guitars, harpsichord and chamber organs, the group has joined forces with Catalan soprano Clara Sanabras and Chilean tenor Rodrigo del Pozo to create a captivating repertoire rooted in musical tradition.
Esperar Sentir Morir is a sensuous and poetic mix of courtly love dances and bittersweet laments, underpinned with infectious Latin rhythms and the exotic spirit of Spain.
